The City has already adopted a number of additional measures to deal with the proliferation of this urban scourge: graffiti on public surface is removed as quickly as possible, increased monitoring of public buildings and spaces is in effect, and employees have been asked to be particularly vigilant when it comes to graffiti.
Three important numbers to remember:

With the objective of revitalizing residential areas, the City of Dorval is offering the Rénovation Québec program for residences with cracked foundations.
In collaboration with the Société d’habitation du Québec (SHQ), the program aims to assist owners of eligible buildings whose foundations have cracks due to their subsidence.
Below is an overview of the financial assistance program.
The grant awarded is equivalent to two-thirds (66 2/3 %) of the cost of eligible work up to a maximum of $12,500. The total cost of eligible work must be at least $7,500 per building.
For details or to submit a request for financial assistance, please contact the Urban Planning Department at 514 633-4084.

The program applies to part or all of the floor area of the building occupied by residential units (and located within the designated area or areas, if applicable). The building foundations must have cracks that are caused by the condition of the natural or transported soil surrounding the foundations.
Eligible projects are those that are necessary to restore the foundations and correct other building components (e.g. interior and exterior walls, floors, windows, etc.) that have been damaged by movement of the foundations. This work shall include installation of at least one pile to stabilize the foundations of the eligible building. The causes of the collapse of the foundation must be linked to the condition of the soil and not a construction defect or failure. Soil conditions that caused the collapse of the foundation must be confirmed by a specialized company. The work must be performed by a contractor who holds the appropriate license from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec and GST-QST numbers, both of which must be valid at the time the work is underway. A person who holds an "owner-builder" license is not considered to hold an appropriate license from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec for purposes of this program. The work may not be receiving financial assistance from another program of the Société d'habitation du Québec, unless it is carried out under the AccèsLogis Québec or Logement abordable Québec programs.
The owner must obtain at least two bids for the performance of eligible work. The City will establish the cost eligible for financial assistance based on the amount of the lowest bid.
No financial assistance may be granted for work that has been carried out before it was approved by the City.
The work must be completed no later than twelve (12) months after the issuance of the certificate of eligibility. After this period, unless otherwise directed by the municipal representative, the file will be closed and the owner will not receive the anticipated grant. However, an extension of this period may be considered by the City upon presentation of a written justification by the owner.
Financial assistance is paid to the owner upon completion of the work only when:
The preventive sweeping of chimneys constitutes a wise decision to improve the safety of your home. The City of Dorval gives out the funds earmarked for this program to property owners rather than to contractors. This approach has numerous advantages for residents who now have the luxury of choosing:
Consequently, the City reimburses the following amounts to property owners:
To obtain their refund, residents must present themselves at City Hall, at 60 Martin Avenue, with the original bill on which appears the name and logo of the contractor. Please take note that all requests for a reimbursement must be made within 12 months following the date of the chimney sweeping work. No reimbursement will be given out for work dating back further than 12 months.
Please take note that this approach was adopted following numerous demands for exemption from the program, complaints about the difficulty in obtaining a specific time to undertake the work, the fear of suffering property damage during the chimney sweeping, claims for property damage, as well as a false sense of security that a too brief chimney sweeping could cause.
To benefit from the services of a chimney sweeper, consult the Yellow Pages, under “Chimney Cleaning & Sweeping”. Note that the City has no ties with any particular chimney sweeper. However, we recommend that you hire the services of a chimney sweeping company accredited by the Association des professionnels du chauffage (APC) in order to ensure a job well done.
As part of its fight against the spread of the emerald ash borer, the City of Dorval has established a financial assistance program to assist its citizens in the costs incurred for the treatment and felling of ash trees located on their property.
The first part of the program is an incentive for the preventive treatment of ash trees whose diameter is at least 30 cm, measured at 1.30 m from the ground.
Citizens eligible to the program will receive a subsidy of 50% of the costs incurred for the inspection and treatment of their ash trees. The City of Dorval reminds everyone that the TreeAzin treatment is the best way to combat the emerald ash borer and that it must be administered before the end of August.
The second part aims to reduce the costs incurred by citizens who must have the ash trees on their property felled due to irreversible deterioration of at least 30%. The trunk must be at least 25 cm in diameter, measured at chest height.
The City of Dorval agrees to reimburse the resident who takes advantage of the program, financial assistance in the amount of $14 per centimetre of diameter. If the actual costs incurred are lower, the resident will receive financial assistance equivalent to such amount. The maximum attribution for each address is $5,000 per 4-year period.
The procedure to obtain the financial assistance is detailed below. You can also contact our Public Works Department at 514 633-4046.

To take advantage of this program, residents must contact the Public Works Department (by email at info.tp@ville.dorval.qc.ca or by phone at 514 633-4046) to indicate their intention to treat one or more ash trees located on their property. In addition to the procedure mentioned above, an eco-counsellor regularly patrols the streets of the City with the aim of identifying damaged ash trees on private properties. If such a tree is found on a land, the eco-counsellor will proceed the following way:

The burning of firewood represents approximately 47.5% of the total emission of fine particles in the air, and the resulting smoke can have adverse effects on the health of citizens, as it consists of nearly 100 various toxic substances. Concerned with providing a healthy environment for residents, the City of Dorval has adopted regulations with respect to solid-fuel burning heating appliances and fireplaces.
In fact, it is prohibited to replace or install solid-fuel burning heating appliances unless they are certified to have atmospheric emission levels equal to or less than 2.5 grams/hour of fine particles. Also:
