A support program, which aims to encourage young people with special needs to participate in the City of Dorval’s summer programming, is offered under certain conditions.
There is exciting news in the world of summer day camps in Dorval! Indeed, starting this summer, the City of Dorval will take over the Dorval Day Camp, which was previously managed by an external organization for many years. By the same token, the activities of the Dorval Kids Klub will be transferred to this new day camp.
This is excellent news for parents, as this reorganization will allow the City to focus all its efforts on a single program and thus offer more day camp spots than in previous years: 216 places instead of 70 places for the Dorval Kids Klub and 80 places for the former Dorval Day Camp!
The Dorval Day Camp will be offered at two locations:
* For all children registering at the ERA, the daycare service is included in the cost. At the SACC, it is possible to opt in or out of the daycare service for Dorval children (lower price for those who do not want the daycare service).
Dorval residents: as of Tuesday, March 18, at noon, online only via the Amilia platform
Non-residents: as of Tuesday, March 25, at noon, online only via the Amilia platform
Be ready for registration! Have your child’s health insurance card and emergency contact information on hand. It would also be useful to have your social insurance card to add your number in order to receive the RL-24 slip.
Important: If the registration will be done by the father, we strongly recommend contacting the City at 514 633-4000 a few days before registration. As you may know, during the transfer of files to the new registration platform, in the fall of 2024, children were added to the mother’s profile and not the father’s. This could cause problems for some families.
If you would like to register your child for weekday swimming lessons or swim team this summer, we ask that you prioritize those offered at 9:05 a.m., Monday through Thursday, to facilitate camp operations.
In addition, you will need to fill out a form and submit it to the SACC supervisor to ensure the presence of the camp’s staff who will accompany the children to their swimming lessons and swim team. The form will be sent by email. Please complete it and return it to cjdsurrey@ville.dorval.qc.ca.
A support program, which aims to encourage young people with special needs to participate in the City of Dorval’s summer programming, is offered under certain conditions.
To provide a fun and entertaining experience for many children, the City of Dorval is looking for monitors, companions, and assistant supervisors to work at the Dorval Day Camp this summer.
Get hands-on day camp experience with the LIT program!
Designed for teens ages 14 to 17 (as of June 1st), this program will help them in their quest to become a camp monitor. This hands-on program provides participants with real-life work experience, helping them develop important skills, gain knowledge, and build confidence. Leaders will learn a variety of skills and techniques by taking part in a 70-hour fieldwork experience at the Dorval Day Camp.
At each of our locations (SACC and ERA), two LITs will be able to complete their practical hours from June 23 to July 18 and two others will do so from July 21st to August 15. The schedule will be determined according to the LITs’ availability and the needs of the City. We strongly recommend that the 70 hours be completed consecutively, for the best possible day camp experience.
Please note that the Dorval Day Camp is open Monday to Friday (even on June 24 and July 1st). Regular programming hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while the daycare service is open from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
All day camp LITs will be invited to take part in some staff theoretical training in June and in team meetings. These meetings will allow LITs to gain more skills and knowledge and will allow them to better understand how to organize and operate a day camp. Following their registration to the program, all LITs will be contacted by a member of our team to plan and discuss their schedule.
We’ll also give the LITs two T-shirts to wear during their practical training, so they’ll be clearly identified with the program and our team.
The LIT program is offered free of charge. Don’t wait, as there are only 8 places available.
A completed LIT program mentioned on your CV will give you an undeniable competitive edge!
This integration program aims to encourage young people with special needs to participate in the City of Dorval’s summer programming (activities in the parks, Dorval Day Camp, and Adventure Quest Camp).
The objective is to allow all children and adolescents to have a pleasant, positive, and fun experience in a safe environment.
People with special needs who wish to participate and take part in the programming must have the prerequisite age for the activity in question. The City of Dorval and parents (or guardians) must agree on the necessary accommodations to promote the optimal integration of young people.
To benefit from the support program, young people with special needs must have the interest and the ability to participate in most of the group's regular activities with the support of a companion.
The parent or guardian must submit a request for support services to the City of Dorval via the Leisure and Culture Department and using the form provided for this purpose.
The City of Dorval will consult, if necessary, youth workers or other partners with expertise in different client profiles and will analyze the needs and level of support required so that the young person can actively participate in summer activities. Parents or guardians must authorize the City, via the form provided for this purpose, to consult the various stakeholders to properly equip the companion so that they can intervene according to the person’s needs.
At the end of the summer, an integration report will be prepared, including several important information on the needs of each young person and the interventions that have been put in place, as well as accommodation recommendations for the following summer.
People who are studying special education technology, psychoeducation, social work, teaching, school adjustment, or in a related field and wish to apply for a job as an instructor in the City of Dorval's support program must submit their application. In order to recruit the best candidates, the hiring process of the staffing service is rigorous. The accompaniment service depends on the number of places available for children needing a companion, and depends on the staff available, as the City is also affected by the current labour shortage.
Before the activities begin, a meeting will be organized between the companion, the parent, and the person needing a companion, in order to introduce themselves and benefit from a first contact before the start of the activities.
Parents and guardians must make a request using the form.
The City of Dorval will analyze, in cooperation with the parents and various stakeholders, the needs and twinning possibilities in terms of the support required for the young person so that they can actively participate in activities with the aim of successful integration.
A big thank you for your cooperation in providing a summer filled with happiness and a successful integration experience for the participants!
